As a leading materials supplier, Covestro develops and manufactures products that are used in many areas of daily life – at home, at work, on the move and in recreation. Several of these products support tackling the challenges of climate changes and the environment. Polyurethanes, for example, are an excellent sustainable material, especially when used for the thermal insulation of houses and in cooling devices. The high-performance plastic polycarbonate is especially suited to make cars lighter so that they consume less fuel. And coatings based on Covestro raw material can protect and make all kinds of surfaces more attractive – be it automotive parts, house walls, infrastructure such as bridges and pipelines or potentially even the human skin. Manufacturing such products needs a lot of energy which results in the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. In this regard, Covestro has defined ambitious targets: from 2005 to 2025 it aims at reducing its specific emissions by up to 50 percent. A number of innovative production technologies will help to achieve this.
Sustainable thinking and acting is imperative to preserve our planet and improve the quality and safety of the lives of millions. Covestro wants to contribute to this goal with products and technologies that benefit society and reduce the impact on the environment. This is the basis of the company’s vision “To make the world a brighter place.”
