We believe that the challenges that arise in the world is the driving force that leads us to new collaboration on innovation that enables genuine social, economic, and environmental sustainability, as well as enhances the livelihoods of people in modern society in the long term. Throughout the application period, the IDC 2020 received much interest and very well response from students at the undergraduate and vocational levels, with over 80 interesting ideas being submitted. We are confident that this platform will be beneficial for the new generation to develop their skills and lead them to grow and become new innovators who drive Thailand to world of sustainability in the future”.

The ideas from 8 finalist teams were  testified to the capability of students in developing their ideas on innovations that answer to the competition’s theme. Most significantly is the exciting ways in which these projects were presented, which greatly impressed the panel. The winning entry went to “SUCKER: water waste collector” from “Pla Krueng Tua” team of students from the Faculty of Architecture and Design, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, receiving a trophy, certificate, and 80,000 baht in scholarship prize money. The main concept of the work stemmed from the desire to reduce the large amounts of marine and river debris. The SUCKER or water waste collector employs the Zero Energy ecological principle which does not require the use of electricity. Its self-sustaining circular nature does not emit pollution to the environment, reduces river debris, while also helping to treat waste water. In addition, the collected debris can then be separated into different types of waste for further recycling as appropriate.

According to Dr. Singh Intrachooto, Chief Adviser of Research & Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC by MQDC), “RISC by MQDC congratulates the students from the winning teams, and wishes to compliment all teams for fully demonstrating their creative thinking capabilities in developing ‘innovations for sustainability’. It is our hope that every student will continue to strive for knowledge and carry on creating innovative solutions to become the new generation of innovators that will provide technological change for the betterment of people’s livelihoods and world’s sustainability.”

“RISC by MQDC”, as the research and innovation center for sustainability that received Thailand’s and Southeast Asia’s first “Gold”  WELL Building Standard in the category of New and Existing Interiors, is determined to emphasize the concept of creating sustainability for life on earth, or “for all well-being”, with a mission to expand this notion to the wider public. We therefore collaborated with Covestro (Thailand) Co., Ltd. in organizing the Covestro Innovation Design Contest 2020, which corresponds to the research conducted by RISC by MQDC. We believe that the new generation is able to create and further develop innovations that are practical and effective in enhancing livelihoods in a sustainable and concrete manner,” said Dr. Singh.

In closing, Dr. Juergen stated that “I would like to congratulate all students who received awards in this year’s contest, and wish to express appreciation to every team for putting their creativity on innovations on full display. I hope that you will not stop thinking and developing new innovations that will provide inspiration to the younger generation that will become an important driving force for bettering the people’s quality of life in society in a truly sustainable manner.”
